Director, Drug Discovery & Development

Our client is a clinical research center focused on the study of neurodevelopmental disorders through a portfolio of studies.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Director, Drug Discovery & Development

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Identifies, develops, and maintains productive partnerships with industry and academic entities to deliver a robust biomarker/target discovery platform.
  • Explores subject area and defines scope and selection of problems for investigation.
  • Develops hypotheses to be tested and methodology for evaluating results.
  • Uses target biology expertise and chemistry knowledge for strategy and method development, validation of new assays, and technology transfer to internal and external partners.
  • Develops, adapts, and performs new and established experimental protocols and techniques.
  • Plans and implements research projects in biomarker analysis and therapeutic development using human and murine model-based research. Maintains strict adherence to research compliance regulatory standards for human and animal subjects use.
  • Works with computational and bioinformatics scientists to organize data collection.
  • Uses knowledge of target-focused, pathway-focused, and phenotypic assays, as well as secondary assays to confirm and determine the mechanism of action.
  • Develops new models, oversees maintenance of animal colonies and in-vivo experimentation.
  • Supports Business Development activities through active participation in presentations to potential investors, support and brainstorming with business partners for the ongoing development of appropriate business plans, and management of intellectual property arising from research.
  • Acts as lab manager, including financial management, day-to-day lab operations, budgetary compliance, and human resources responsibilities.
  • Directs, supervises, trains post-doctoral researchers, research associates, and lab assistants.
  • Develops work plan, devises experiments, identifies techniques and approaches, oversees progress, and evaluates results. Ensures that optimal timelines are set and met.
  • Ensures appropriate training of research unit personnel and investigators in sample handling and processing in relation to biomarkers assays.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • PhD or MD/PhD in neuroscience, genetics, molecular biology or related field, required.
  • Requires biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience, including a minimum of 5 years of experience with scientific investigation and progressive responsibility.
  • Must have extensive cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology experience.
  • Requires strong theoretical knowledge in neuroscience and understanding of biomarkers and therapeutic target discovery.
  • Experience managing teams and project budgets required.
  • Must have demonstrated outstanding achievement in a field of research, and must have contributed to a number of peer-reviewed publications, inventions or the like, at least some of which have had a major impact on advancing the field or discipline.
