Senior Director Translational Biology

Our client is a biopharmaceutical company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Senior Director, Translational Biology

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Builds and leads a focused team with deep knowledge of specific cancers of high-relevance for the Company’s growing therapeutic pipeline.
  • Maintains and advances personal and organizational knowledge and expertise in human molecular cancer pathology, disease biology, and genomics & proteomics and biobanking.
  • Supports multidisciplinary disease-based portfolio planning and strategy.
  • Recommends and leads informative tumor profiling and exploratory biomarker studies to support team objectives and corporate needs. 
  • Develops and manages an externalized research network of select vendors and first-in-class contract research organizations to support exploratory patient segmentation biomarker validation, indication selection, and science-based asset positioning.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key academic and industry scientific collaborators.
  • Defines and implements a scientific/technical strategy to meet current business needs and anticipate future scientific, regulatory, IP and business requirements.
  • Delivers plans and materials for impactful external presentations and publications.
  • Ensures organizational, operational and priority alignment across the R&D organization.
  • Actively manages key relationships with other R&D areas including strategic partnerships, translational sciences, clinical research, and business development.
  • Implements lifecycle management for the current and projected infrastructure.
  • Establishes and drives practices focused on continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Ensures alignment of resources with Corporate and R&D priorities.
  • Ensures a stable, outstandingly qualified, and engaged scientific workforce to meet current and future business needs.
  • Defines and implements a workforce management plan.
  • Enables recruitment, retention and development of first-rate scientific talent.
  • Fosters and drives a culture and processes to ensure open, timely, and relevant communication within and across functions.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Must have an advanced degree; MD, PhD preferred.
  • Must have between 10 - 15 years of research experience in molecular pathology, genomics & proteomics, disease biology, and cancer therapeutic science.
  • Requires at least 10 years of experience managing people.
  • Must have significant leadership experience in leading teams, projects, programs and directing the allocation of resources.
  • Must possess personal leadership qualities that inspire trust, respect, credibility and confidence of peers and colleagues and takes the organization to a higher level.
  • Requires the ability to drive performance differentiation across the organization, recognizing top talent and addressing marginal performance.
  • Must have the ability to create, grow and develop high performing teams that deliver outstanding business results.
  • Requires the ability to lead teams and groups through decision-making processes to drive to timely decisions.
  • Must have the ability to drive organizational evolution and requires experience in running large, complex, scientific organizations.
  • Must have experience fostering an environment that drives creativity and innovation, where individuals can think “outside the box” and take calculated risks.
