Director MSL

Our client is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company. They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Director MSL.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Manages and develops all MSLs within the region including hiring, field training, evaluation, motivation and disciplinary activities in alignment with the company’s corporate strategies and objectives.  Provide strong leadership to motivate region to achieve excellent results.
  • Ensures that all interactions and activities in the region adhere to corporate and healthcare compliance guidance in all activities, including those related to clinical trials, scientific interactions with internal and external groups, and responses to unsolicited requests for medical/scientific information.
  • Maintains clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in oncology.
  • Represents the company and Medical Affairs during exchanges with the medical/scientific community.
  • Interprets and translates national strategies and POA into regional POA including the development and execution of a regional opinion leader development strategy and then guiding/assisting MSLs in developing and executing an opinion leader strategy in their individual territories.  Opinion leader development includes appropriately engaging opinion leaders in research, as consultants and other activities.
  • Guides and assists the MSLs in the coordination of opinion leader interactions within and across the region and with internal stake holders as necessary.
  • Coordinates within in Medical Affairs to appropriately deploy MSLs in the region to respond to unsolicited questions while managing regional capacity.
  • Clearly communicates the national, regional, and territory plans, objectives, and POA; define, clarify and manage the regional team priorities; actively support the regional team and their efforts by being their advocate and spokesperson; promote collaboration within the team, across work groups and with customers.
  • Collaborates within Medical Affairs to appropriately respond to unsolicited requests.
  • Represents the MSL function on US Medical Affairs teams as necessary.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in life science.
  • 10+ years of experience in industry, academic research, or public health including 5+ years in oncology.
  • Experience functioning as a field-based employee.
  • Understanding of hospital hematology/oncology departments.
  • Able to inspire a team to excel by fostering a climate of energy, excitement and personal accountability.
  • This person must demonstrate leadership in ambiguous situations.
  • Current working knowledge of US legal, regulatory, and compliance regulations and guidelines.
  • Ability to partner with key internal stakeholders to understand key objectives and to drive plans.
