Medical Science Liaison

Our client is one of the world’s leading generics and specialty pharmaceutical companies.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Medical Science Liaison.

The Medical Science Liaison role is to enhance medical communication between the company and therapeutic experts and researchers, support clinical and outcomes research development, facilitate research site selection and study placement, and facilitate the development and receipt of investigator initiated research proposals.  The MSL will establish relationships with clinical and research leaders in their assigned region including, but not limited to, academicians, clinicians, directors of pharmacy and other health care professionals.  The MSL will collaborate with the respective Therapeutic Area Medical Director to assist in the execution of Medical Affairs Strategy in their respective geography.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Engages in meaningful proactive and reactive peer-to-peer discussions with healthcare professionals regarding the respective disease state via scientific exchange.
  • Develops strong relationships with emerging healthcare professionals, Key Opinion Leaders and key academic institutions and researchers.
  • Provides information on new research directions, ideas, practices in patient care and identifies unmet medical needs.
  • Acts as a liaison between National and Regional Thought Leaders and the company to extend the Medical Affairs strategic business plan.
  • Interacts with Healthcare Professionals to develop educational materials (e.g. disease monographs, publications, slides) for educational purposes at academic centers or community-based programs.
  • Supports field operations through presentations of scientific exchange to targeted audiences including managed care organizations.
  • Coordinates projects with Regional Directors, National Account Managers, and District Managers to provide leadership and strategies to develop advocates for the company and access issues impacting the industry.
  • Actively participates in Speaker Training, Advisory Boards, Round Table discussions, National and Regional Medical Conferences and internal Committee meetings, as needed.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of published literature in the respective therapeutic area of specialization as well as attends meetings and congresses sponsored by the influential leaders of the respective therapeutic area for educational purposes.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and channels information to the appropriate personnel and provides timely responses to requests regarding product or disease information assuring that all activities and reporting methodologies are compliant with company and regional policies.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD) plus at least 5-7 years of Medical Science Liaison experience within the therapeutic areas above.
  • Proven track record of success, especially in the area of establishing relationships with opinion leaders in therapeutic areas of interest to the company.
  • Must possess knowledge of the Medical Science Liaison roles and responsibilities and understand compliance within the Standards for Interactions with U.S. Healthcare Providers, Federal and State promotional laws and regulations, the PhRMA Code, ACCME Standards, and the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
  • Must have advanced scientific education, training, and/or experience in either allergy/immunology, respiratory/pulmonology, CNS, anesthesia, metabolic disorders, or oncology.
  • Ability to read and interpret comprehensive and intricate research documents.
  • Ability to write scientific reports and technical correspondence.
  • Ability to work with executives and communicate abstract concepts.
  • Ability to present to a high level of the organization and groups outside of the organization.
  • Expected to travel 60% of time.
